Social interactions

Social interactions are affected by

  • relative positions in the given society
  • the appropriate register or formality
  • the platform of communication
  • the cultural backgounds of the participants
As we have discussed in class, the social interactions of a student with other individuals will vary greatly depending on these variables

exmaples follow

student to administrator - speech, - distant, formal, brief with much omitted detail
student to other student - speech - distant, brief, informal
student to friends - chat/messaging - close, lengthy, detailed, informal including a great deal of slang
student to friends - sms - close, brief, informal and abbreviations
student to family - speech - (our example) close, formal, omitted detail
